Painters
I never imagined I would be interested in paintings, until I took a good look at these fine gentlemen's works.
Edward Hopper
His paintings evoke a strange feeling of nostalgia and loneliness – but not in a sad way. They make me calm down and think about a lot of things. Irresistible. Nighthawks, Office in a Small City and Gas are my favorites.
René Magritte
Always thought-provoking. Empire of Light is possibly my favorite painting ever (together with Nighthawks). The contrast of bright serene sky and the dark stillness below is mesmerizing.
Claude Monet
I don't know what it is, but impressionist paintings always make me nostalgic in a happy way. Like I want, for a moment, live inside the painting. Impression Sunrise is just so beautiful.
Jakub Schikaneder
A fellow Czech. Again, I can't really put my finger on it, but his paintings have something that speaks to me. Evening in the Garden, A Corner of Old Prague, All Soul's Day are all very atmospheric and just beautiful.
Hiroshi Nagai 永井博
His city pop-art paintings have unique vibe. They kind of remind me of that 80s/90s vaporware aesthetic, which I like. Check his website.
Hiroshi Yoshida 吉田 博
There is something very satisfying about his art style. The beautiful color schemes, the way he captures the light and the overall mood of the paintings. I could look at them for hours. It's hard to pick one, but I absolutely love the Sailing Boats (it's a series of paintings, check the Wiki page).
Zdzislaw Beksinski
His paintings are dark, surreal and sometimes disturbing. And that's exactly why I like them. The Valley of Death painting reminds me of Warhammer 40000.
