Music

I listen to a lot of different genres, but I have a soft spot for classic/progressive/alternative rock, metal, blues and some jazz. I'm by no means an expert in anything; I just love good music.

This list is far from being complete, because there is so much great music out there. I will keep adding to it as I remember more.

Pink Floyd

If I had to choose only one band to listen to until the end of my life, it would be Pink Floyd. They have it all. Their music is like drugs, but without the drugs. David Gilmour is a guitar deity. Stop everything and go watch the Pulse concert right now.

Dire Straits

Mark Knopfler is a genius. Telegraph Road (from the Live Alchemy tour) is one of the best live performances I have ever seen.

Megadeth

Thrash metal gods. Rust in Peace is the best metal album ever.

Metallica

I prefer their older stuff. Legends. Hetfield can downpick like a motherfucker.

Slayer

The no-bullshit, raw power thrash metal as it should be. Slayer makes no compromises, their fast aggressive riffs are iconic. Angel of Death from The Unholy Alliance is the Slayer I want to remember.

Sepultura

They are sensational. I can listen to their Arise and Beneath the Remains albums on loop.

Meshuggah

Like a fractal converted to music. Unique and brutal. Masters of complex polyrhythms, odd time signatures and intricate musical structures. Also, Tomas Haake is not a human.

Opeth

Very unique blend of aggresive and heavy prog metal and melodic soft passages in long and intricate arrangements. Ghost Reveries is my favorite album.

Led Zeppelin

Enough said. Go watch Kashmir, Robert Plant is like 70 in this video and still kicking serious ass (in fact, they all are). The drummer is John Bonham's son.

Gary Moore

One of my favorite guitarists. His tone and skill is unmatched. He could do it all. The Messiah Will Come Again is always worth listening to.

Porcupine Tree

Discovered them just recently and absolutely hooked. Love Anesthesize and Fear of a Blank Planet.

Tool

Very unique and refreshing. Kinda Pink Floyd-y at times, which I like. Danny Carey's drumming is out of this world.

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Legendary bluesman. His guitar playing is a unique combination of raw power and emotion. He could play anything. I wish I could watch Texas Flood for the first time again.

BB King

The King of the Blues. His playing is so smooth and beautiful. He makes the guitar sing. Live at Montreux.

Buckethead

This dude is a freak. Totally, criminally underrated. Soothsayer, enough said.

The Cranberries

Dolores O'Riordan's voice is hauntingly beautiful. To be honest, I hate the Zombie song, but other than that... There is always time to listen to Linger.
